Hello, Check your local forecast for pollen counts. Often times allergy spikes in pollen will cause the symptoms you are describing. An over the counter antihistamine is a safe way to see if your children feel better without an antibiotic. I hope this helps.

Highly unlikely to be a bacterial infection, sounds to me that they both have upper respiratory infections due to a number of viruses, such as Adeno virus, parainfluenza, Rhino virus, not COVID corona virus, RSV, influenza A & B, metapneumonia, etc.
