Answers: Braces do make your teeth whiter but they can be whitened afterwards. Clear braces may work as well. They have some limitations. Your orthodontist can discuss options, how it feels, costs, time for treatment, etc.

Braces don't whiten: You can whiten your teeth before or after braces, but the braces do nothing to whiten. Clear brackets work as well, but are a tad bulkier and weaker. Your teeth will feel sore for the first week or so and the braces will initially feel bulky, but most patients seem to adjust just fine. One of the most important ways to make sure your teeth look nice after braces are removed is to brush diligently.

No, no: Braces to not change your teeth color. Clear brackets are great, but quite as effective as metal (has to do with friction of wire on bracket and how forces can be applied). The braces will take a few days to get used to-- they'll feel 'weird' for a few days and you will have some discomfort for 2-3 days, but then you will barely know they are there after that.

Mixed: Braces do not change tooth color, not cleaning next to braces can damage tooth enamel. Best rx done w metal braces. Clear "porcelain" braces almost as effective. Clear aligners (trays) only about 1/2 as effective as braces, cost more, and the compromised result is less stable. See an orthodontic specialist to discuss what would best treat your malocclusion. Everyone's different.

You can keep whiter!: When your teeth are straight, you may be able to clean them better and prevent plaque based stain from accumulating. Resulting in a whiter look. Metal braces are "fixed" in place, are better with difficult cases and don't require much patient compliance but are very hard to clean. Clear invisaligners only work if worn at all times except eating or cleaning. Invisalign is 1000% easier to clean!
