Back strengthening: When you have a herniated disk, its important not to do exercises that cause intense pain or worsen any symptoms of sciatica (pain shooting down the leg). On the other hand, the fastest way to get better after a disk problem is to do be as active and do as much exercise as possible. Both extension and flexion exercises are useful, as long as they do not cause worsening of pain or sciatica.
