Probable cyst: This sounds like a sebaceous cyst, or furuncle. By "comes and goes" do you mean that it drains occasionally? This is a typical cyst with sebum, or a waxy interior that can become infected with staph. It can be treated with lancing and drainage and/or antibiotics, but best treatment is removing the cyst and capsule, so it will not recur. This is usually a simple office procedure.
