A few causes.: Most nutrient are not absorbed in the stomach, that is the job of the small intestine. Many diseases cause malnutrition by disturbing small intestine or by altering transit time - crohn's disease, gluten enteropathy, allergy, intestinal lymphoma, pernicious anemia, pancreatic disease.
