Yes: If you have painful varicose veins, it is a sign that you have a problem with larger underlying veins (usually saphenous veins). This is not simply a cosmetic issue and can lead to significant health problems like skin ulcers or blood clots. Effective treatment can be achieved with a minimally invasive office procedure. There is some temporary discomfort, but usually tolerated very well.

Yes: Painful varicose veins should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon...Treatments nowadays are much less invasive than the old days of vein strppings.

Have them removed: Surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia and thus painless at the time. Elastic stockings or ace bandages post-operatively will minimize post-operative pain. Surgery is best performed by a vascular surgeon. Good luck.

Painful veins: If you have painful veins then you should see a vein specialist for a full venous evaluation. There are many reasons for pain in veins and some of these causes can be dangerous such as deep venous thrombophlebitis.
