Dryness: You get dryness partially from the air going in and out thru the mouth but you may also have seborrheic dermatitis which is inherited.

Mouth-breathing: Mouth-breathing is commonly caused by nasal obstruction. It could be swelling of the nasal membranes due to allergies or infection, or enlargement of the turbinates, small bones inside the nose, or even a deviated nasal septum. If it's a chronic problem and you want to have it evaluated, see an ENT (otolaryngologist) and a ct will probably be necessary.
