Why do moms want to have "chicken pox parties"?

Popular decades ago: Many decades ago moms often arranged exposure parties where the guest of honor had "whatever" and the kids were brought in to get a good exposure so they could have the illness at a time when their mom could plan for it.Some still do.I was the guest of honor when i had measles. Knowing what I do now i would never recommend them.
