Best treatment to minimize scarring is to keep the healing spots moist. Applying vaseline and covering the areas will keep the healing skin moist and lubricated to minimize scarring. Do not apply to breast tissue as this can be ingested.

Once all the lesions have dried and healed, most likely you are no longer contagious. If the lesions are still active, avoid contact with the baby. Infants have more susceptibility to the infection. Ensure that the skin is clean and lesion free when nursing. Wash hands with antibacterial soap. Pumping and storing the milk may be an option. Watch for any signs of cough, fever/baby.
