Hemoptysis: Coughing up blood can be from: bronchitis (acute, chronic) bronchiectasis lung cancer or other lung tumors use of blood thinners pneumonia pulmonary embolism congestive heart failure tuberculosis autoimmune conditions (lupus, wegener’s granulomatosis, microscopic polyangiitis, churg-strauss syndrome) pulmonary arteriovenous malformation some people with hemoptysis, no cause is ever identified.
