See someone sooner: Rest and elevate the foot. Use crutches for now, but you need to see someone sooner to determine the cause. Having to wait 4-6 weeks is not acceptable. Some causes of swelling of the feet and legs can include systemic problems such as hypertension, and problems with the kidneys and localized issues such as arthritis, cellulitis, lymphatic obstruction, blood clots, varicose veins, and trauma.

See your doctor: If you are unable to see a foot specialists, see your primary care physician. Swelling present for that length of time, usually requires additional investigation. Visit apma.Org to find a specialist near you. Dr l.
