Depends on the cause: Has your diet changed? Any recent travel? There are many reasons for irregular bowel movements, and sometimes diet changes or travel can cause this condition. Infections and other chronic diseases may cause this as well. You should be evaluated in person if you are having blood in the stool, fevers, weight loss, or it is not improving after several days.
