Liver disease.: Nash is an acronym for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, a liver disease where the organ becomes inflamed and infiltrated with fat. This pattern occurs in alcoholics, so NASH is used to describe it is patients who do not drink. The cause is likely due to obesity, diabetes, & metabolic syndrome. If it progresses, it can lead to liver failure, a condition called cirrhosis of the liver.
