What does lack of vitamin d have to do with kidneys?

Dr. Linda DiMeglio answered

Conversion to active Vitamin D: Vitamin d whether obtained from diet or from sun exposure must be metabolized first by the liver and secondly by the kidneys from a relatively inactive prohormone to the active form of vitamin d that is primarily responsible for its metabolic effects. In particular, the kidneys take 25 hydroxy vitamin d to 125 hydroxy vitamin d.
