Axial back pain: Axial pain in the neck and mid-back with radiation down the low-back is multifactorial and typically innocuous. However, if the pain is related to compression of the spinal cord itself, it can be a much more serious condition. If you flex your neck and experience an electrical sensation down your spine (lhermitte's sign), this could indicate cord compression and may require a formal evaluation.
