Pain meds: If you are taking narcotic pain medications like codeine, vicodin, Percocet can slow your GI tract. Possibly causing the distention.

Medications?: If you are taking narcotic pain medications you be have some constipation which may give you the feeling of distention. Also, since you just had surgery you need to nourish your body with more that a banana shake if you want to heal properly.
