A member asked:

If the pressure in left eye is 14 and the right eye is 20, would the 5 point difference in pressure indicate glaucoma may be present in right eye?

It depends: While both pressures are in the normal range, it is of concern that there is a 5 mm difference between both eyes, as it is more normal for the pressure in both eyes to be closer together. Your doctor should be doing several extra tests to make sure the nerve of the right eye is normal such as visual fields and imaging of the optic nerves. You would then need regular and careful follow-up.

Glaucoma: It is common for two eyes to have slightly different pressures. However - if the eye pressure in one eye is consistently higher than the other - and glaucoma is diagnosed - the eye with the higher pressure is the one more likely to have glaucoma.
