Good question: The most important factor is a good connection with the therapist, regardless of the therapist's gender. Please find a therapist that is well-trained and that you trust, work hard in therapy sessions and try to apply what you learn in therapy to the conflicts you're having. Hope this answer helps.

Not necessarily: You should choose a counselor you feel most comfortable with, since a good match is one of the most important factors in a good outcome. If you feel more trusting of a male therapist, go with that, but if you have had problems or disappointments with father figures in the past it may make more sense to choose a woman. You want to make sure it is someone you feel is solid and supportive. Good luck.
