Yes: Children know hitting is not a socially acceptable behavior. However, children will hit for many reasons: frustration, anger, attention and sometimes just to get a rise out of their care givers. If your reaction to the hitting varies, then children tend to continue to hit. However, if you consistantly put your child on time out, without any warnings, the behavior will typically subside.
