Hallux rigidus : The 2 surgeries done to correct the hallux rigidus can cause a significant amount of inflammation or swelling. The orthopedic removed the spurs at the 1st mpj joint then the podiatrist did another surg. To help improve the range of motion. Scarring of the skin can be improved by applying Mederma cream or applying a silicon scar sheet. Cortisone can be applied topically or injected into the scar.

Rest and elevate: Swelling may last a long time following surgery. Rest and elevate to minimize the swelling. Have it evaluated by your surgeon and get their advice. You may benefit with physical therapy.
