Labored breathing in: A newborn warrants a doctor visit asap, especially if it interferes with feeding/ sleeping/alertness. If his rectal temp is 100.4 or >, it may be a sign of infection. If he has no fever, he still needs a thorough physical exam, with emphasis on checking his heart & lungs.Call his pediatrician for after-hours instructions. There will be a doctor or nurse practitioner on-call.
