Chest pain on taking a deep breath may occur with inflammation of the lining around the lungs(pleuritic pain) or the lining around the heart(pericardial pain). Either of these may be caused by an infection and can be expected to resolve. More commonly, these symptoms occur after injury to your chest muscles or ribs. Examination by your doctor would provide the diagnosis as well as the treament.
