Building a buffer: Phenobarbitol works within the brain to increase what you can call a buffer or barrier against the abnormal leakage of energy in the brain that causes a seizure. At proper blood levels this can help avoid events that might occur episodically or due to stress or fever. Do not stop suddenly as a sudden drop in the buffer could bring on an event.
