Tmj: You likely have tmj. A way to tell is to open and close the jaw with a finger placed in the TMJ socket which is roughly the pocket created when one opens the mouth and places a finger directly in front of the ear canal right at the level of the sideburns. Softer foods, warm compresses and Motrin should help. Avoid gum chewing. Other option is migraine.

Could be a tooth/TMJ: When a tooth is going bad it often presents these non localized symptoms first due to the particular type of nerves in the tooth. I see this scenario quite often. With ear pain it is often a lower molar (but not always). You also may be developing a TMJ problem or possibly an ENT issue with sinuses or ear. http://www.laserdentistbaltimore.com/toothache/ http://www.Laserdentistbaltimore.Com/tmj.

Endodontist: Get to an endodontist for a proper diagnosis. The most common reason for your pain is a root canal problem. If it is not an endodontic problem, they will make the proper referral. Feel better!

An abscessed tooth: Any person with symptoms linked to a dental abscess should see a dentist promptly. With the right dental treatment, a dental infection is easily cured.
