Be careful: If you do have achilles tendinitis there is always a risk of tear if you ignore it but there are many causes of pain just above the heel. Achilles tendinitis has a gradual onset and hurts with all types of exercise. It is often worse climbing stairs or running uphill. It may feel stiff after inactivity or first walking in the am. The tendon itself may be thick or have nodules. Get checked out.
