Yes and yes: Malaria is curable with correct treatment. Malaria in canada is imported by travelers returning to canada. Of 553 cases found between 1981-2002, 65% were brought home from sub-saharan africa, & 23% south asia. Of single source countries--india was number one--110 cases brought back to canada hailed from india alone. Tourists (29%) & immigrants (29%) were tied as those who brought the illness home.
