A member asked:

What is the meaning of a chronically *low* ast (sgot) result? should i be concerned, are there actions i should take?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Low ast (SGOT) / alt (SGPT) mean nothing. The ranges are set up so that 90% of healthy folks fall into them. This generates confusion. We have a saying in lab medicine, "treat the person, not then number.".
