Depends: Unfortunately it depends very much on which part of the wrist is sprained. A sprain is defined by a tear or a tendon or ligament. The wrist has ligaments that resolve in a brace over a few weeks. The wrist also has ligaments that require extensive surgery. There are even wrist sprains such as scapholunate disassociations that may never heal completely even after surgery.

Depends: Keep it in the brace as long as your doc says you should. As your wrist feels better that usually means things are getting better and your doc should be able wean you out of the splint.

Healing times vary: Pain is normal up to several weeks or months after an injury. Usually with immobilization pain should be somewhat controlled. Rest and elevation will keep the swelling and pain at a minimum and possibly improve your symptoms. Consult with you doctor as to how log you will need to use the brace.
