MRI: Go see your doc. Mri of the knee is usually what is needed. If it is not completely torn, you may only need physical therapy. You need to see your doctor.

McMurray's test.: A McMurrays test can be done in the office, which give you an idea if there is a meniscus tear. Usually an MRI is required to confirm it. A meniscal root tear, is actually a detachment of its insertion point in the back of the knee. Acts like a tear, though.
