I have a wbc of 11.7 and a neutrophils (absolute) count of 7.9. both are just outisde "high" range. should i have this checked closer?

Depends: If you have no symptoms pointing to infection, and the morphology is normal, and your physician hasn't expressed concern, don't worry. The "range" is set to include 90% or so of apparently healthy people. A cold shower will shoot neutrophils well above normal range. "treat the person, not the lab value." thanks for asking.
