Eat less and do more: Citalopram is not known for weight gain being a common side effect. It is possible that you were eating less before and now that your condition is being treated with citalopram you are able to eat more. Or you were more active before and now less active. Some people crave sweets when taking ssri's like citalopram. The only proven way to lose weight is to take in fewer calories than you expend.
