Low glycemic index: Everytthing with moderation in addition to a low carbohydrate diet is the optimal diet, if you decide an extra amount of carbohydrates you should take more medicine.

Portion control: I think the above answer does well for your first question, but in answer to your second question - you can eat some things that are sweet, so long as you manage how many that you eat.
