Needs evaluation: Unintended weight loss needs to be investigated, particularly if the person, as you say, is eating well. Not masticating enough by itself is not sufficient to explain weight loss.

Weight loss: Improper chewing because of lack of teeth may cause weight loss and other digestive problems. It can also cause weight gain by eating high calorie sugary soft foods. A mayo study years ago stated that improper chewing caused by toooth loss can shorten lifes by ten years.
