A member asked:

Hoe does trimethoprim cause disturbance in blood cells?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See answer : It can interfere with the normal metabolism of many different dividing cells by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. This enzyme is an important part of Folic Acid metabolism. We generally see more than just anemia with trimethoprim. We sometimes see lowering of the WBC count and platelets too.
