Nicotine addiction: Sorry to hear you picked up nicotine. Nicotine is the biggest detriment to your long term health, and highly addictive. There are many ulcerative colitis and crohn's patients who self medicate with a wide variety of remedies, nicotine being one of them. Hopefully you will be able to quit nicotine and get solid help for your uc. It is not easy.

Double Edged Sword: Interestingly, tobacco use with uc has been shown to help with symptoms of the inflammatory bowel disease, which is the opposite as seen with crohn's disease (worsens symptoms/flare ups) nonetheless - there are countless adverse effects from smoking. While calming (because it doesn't cure it) one, you may be introducing a host of other risks to your health.
