You need a culture: An abcess is an infection of the skin which is almost always caused by a pathogenic bacteria called staphyloccus aureus. It is very contagious, and lives on the skin, and sometimes inside the nose. Someone with abcesses can spread the infection to others. You need to see a skin doctor, and the skin must be cultured to find out the exact kind of staph germ is present then you need an antibiotic.
