Let me explain: Spinal and epidural anesthesia are medicines that numb parts of your body to block pain. They are given through shots in or around the spine. You will stay awake during both of these types of anesthesia. There are advantage and disadvantage. •allergic reaction to the anesthesia used •bleeding around the spinal column •difficulty urinating •drop in blood pressure •infection in your spine .Headache.

Same as gen anesth: I assume you are asking about a spinal anesthetic. In a healthy 19 year old or unhealthy 79 year old it is a safe anesthetic. There are risks to all anesthetics and these risks are individualized. Because of new techniques to preform them they are usually safer than general anesthetics.

Discomfort/headache: The risks of spinal or epidural anesthesia consist of the following; bleeding, infection and headache. The anesthesiologist cleans the area to minimize infection, small needles and care to your history minimize bleeding. The headaches are a problem with a CSF leak. It is self limiting and easily treatable. The last thing that cn happen is that the back muscles will hurt after the procedure.
