Reduced anxiety: Drugs are sometimes prescribed for anxious patients before dental treatment. Taken approx 1 hour before procedure will help reduce fear, anxiety and nervousness during treatment. Side effects are variable with all patients. Besides having the positive effects mentioned, negative side effects including dry mouth , drowsiness and dizziness to name a few. Do not drive while taking these meds !

Sedation: Lorazepam has anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, and respiratory depressant effects as well as others. Sedation and relaxation would be likely effects of the doses you mention, which actually need to be prescribed and titrated by a physician. Depending on your tolerance to the medication, certain doses could be too high for you.
