Ulcer or gallbladder: Ulcers or gallbladder disease would be the two most common causes for upper abdominal pain in your age group. To treat an ulcer you avoid caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, anti-inflammatories, and spicy foods. In addition start taking an over-the-counter antacid medication such as Prilosec or prevacid (lansoprazole). If no improvement in two weeks or symptoms worsen i would recommend you see your physician. Gallbladder pain typically gets better by avoiding fatty foods but it would require further evaluation by a physician.

Get insurance: This is an important time for you to get insurance. In michigan the weather is very cold. If you have an accident while driving any hospital bill will be very expensive. Abdominal pain can be from many causes. Any tests your doctor or emergency room orders will cost more if you pay out of pocket. Look for a health department or ask your employer for ways to get insurance soon.
