Yes.: Medications like haldol, (haloperidol) are used to treat an acute manic episode, especially, if that person is hearing voices, seeing things that aren't there, delusional, and others. Haldol (haloperidol) is quite fast acting, which is why it is used, but with the newer medications, they work as fast as well, and the risk of a movement disorder is less in the new mood stabilizers / antipsychotics.
