How come an intravenous needle goes in straight but comes out bend?

Beacuse : The needle has a small plastic hollow catheter over it... Both go in, then the metal needle comes out and you leave the plastic catheter in.... That part can bend easily, so when it comes out the plastic part can be bent. Hope that's clear.
