Antitussives: Codeine is the gold standard, but only by prescription. Use a preparation marked dm for dextromethorphan. In children, the recommended dose of dextromethorphan is 1 mg/kg/day divided into four doses, with a maximum daily dose of 30 mg for children aged 2 to 5 years.
