Relieve symptoms: Common colds are caused by viruses so antibiotics don't help. Relieve fever with Acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Use nasal saline drops or cool mist vaporizer for stuffy noses. Dark honey can stop coughs as long as your kid is 12 months and older. Over the counter cold remedies are not recommended in someone this young.

Old fashion remedies: Many of the over the counter medications are not appropriate for young toddlers. Normal saline and humidified air help to relieve symptoms. You can sit in the bathroom and run a hot shower to loosen mucus and relieve the cough. Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen are helpful for the fever. Herbal honey based cough suppressants are good for your children > 1 year with little concerns of side effects.
