Watch closely: Keep it clean and dry. If it shows signs of oozing or weeping, or gets warm to the touch, see the child's doctor as an infection here can turn serious quickly. Congratulations on your new baby.

Sore ??: Most umbilical stumps will look a bit oozy after a few days & the kid will squirm as you tend to it. There are no pain fibers in the stump & any fussing they do represents a reaction to being messed with or the cool nature of evaporating alcohol if you are treating it so. If the surrounding skin begins to get pink/red or puffy, call your doc. Most will self heal without pbs.
