Not Uncommon: Cold sensitivity is a very common symptom. It can mean there is nothing wrong all the way to a nerve that is beginning to have a problem. Then length of time the feeling lasts after you swallow the ice cream is an important factor. If it goes away quickly you can try sensitivity toothpastes. In time they may help. If it does not go away get an x ray to see if there is a bigger problem.

Try this 1st: Try using a desensitizing toothpaste such as sensidyne or colgate or crest for sensitivity, for a few weeks. If this does not suffice, then an examination by a dentist is needed to determine the cause and cure. You may have some abrasion that exposes some of the root or dentin of the tooth or you may have some decay.
