A member asked:

Would melanoma from upper arm (pt2a 1.3mm superficial spreading, no ulceration) spread to node under chin?

Possible risk: A melanoma of 1.3 mm depth should be looked at for possible lymph node sampling because there can be a risk of spread to the lymph nodes. Go to a center that specializes in melanoma--they are usually affiliated with a university medical center.

Not likely but...: Melanoma doesn't always spread in a predictable manner. Even though your tumor was small and superficial. You should complete your staging work up with a pet or pet/ct scan to evaluate any risk of disease elsewhere.

Rare but possible: This depth of melanoma usually has about a 10% risk of sprading to lymph nodes. The most common site would be to the armpit lymph nodes, but melanoma is very evasive and can spread just about anywhere. Talk to your doctor/surgeon to see if you need the chin lymph node further evaluated.

Possible: It is possible. Did you undergo a sentinel lymph node procedure?
