No: Transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound of the pelvis is a compliment to the the evaluation of blood hormones (e.g. Follicle stimulating hormone (fsh) and lutenizing hormone (lh)) in addition to a thorough physical exam and clinical history. Transrectal ultrasound is reserved for imaging of the prostate in men and for ultrasound guided procedures such as abscess drainage.
