There are options: There are lots of treatment options for heavy periods. For women who are not done having periods birth control pills work well. Mirena (levonorgestrel) iuds can decrease bleeding significantly. There is a nonhormonal medication called Lysteda that works great. A thickened lining should be evaluated by a biopsy.

Could be normal: Actually, your uterine lining thickens every month. That is a normal response to the estrogen from your ovaries. If you are not ovulating then the lining will continue to thicken. This can affect fertility. It can often be addressed with birth control pills, which obviously can also affect fertility.
