Choose baby sex: Read dr landrum shettles book if you want to try on your own with probably less than 80 % success. Otherwise you need the advice of a reproductive specialist. Nowadays there are new ways or procedures to separate sperm with the y or x chromosome more reliably but more expensive.

Sorting vs PGD: For gender selection - 1. Sperm sorting (microsort) since gender is determined by sperm (x or y chromosome) - may increase isolation of gender of interest to 75-90% depending on whether male or female. It involves intrauterine insemination after sperm is processed. 2. Pgd - >99% success in gender selection. It involves the use of in vitro fertilization, biopsy of the embryo. It can be costly.

PGD: Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is the best approach when medically indicated sex selection is warranted (e.g. In x-linked recessive genetic disorders). It is constly and may adversely inpact the success rate of in vitro fertilization, but it is accurate and more widel available nowadays.

Gender selection: Gender selection requires ivf/pgd for 100% of the desired sex. Some physicians will perform for family balancing. A sperm sort technique, microsort, is currently not available. I have had the same implantation rate of embryos with pgd as any ivf. We also are able to check all the chromosomes and reduce risk for downs and other chromosome abnormalities, and lower miscarriage.
