Cord care: The cord needs simple basic care after birth to eventually dry up, separate from its base & heal. It is a potential site for infection if kept too moist or not monitored. Simple daily rinses with rubbing alcohol helps dry the site & most have separated the stump within 2 wks. If the skin around the cord base starts to swell or become red have it examined. For now try rinsing the base with alcohol.

Nothing is wrong: At 9 days of age i will bring the baby to the office and apply silver nitrate to the cord. This will cure the problem.
